Join the Board of Directors
The Portland Symphonic Choir is a 501(c)(3) organization governed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors. PSC board members include local business leaders and singers who generously give their time and expertise to support the choir’s mission. The Operations Manger manages operations, production, development, marketing and communications for the Choir. All musical activities are under the leadership of the Artistic Director including auditions, rehearsal preparation, and repertoire selection.
What does the Board of Directors do?
The Board of Directors is active, engaged, and works on various projects for the choir from financial oversight to fundraising to marketing and communications. Board members actively participate in strategic planning, policymaking and financial oversight of the organization. The Board also serves on working committees based on their areas of interest and expertise, including:
Artistic Development
Development (fundraising)
Education
Finance
Governance
Marketing
What kind of a time commitment do Board Members make?
The Board is going through a period of growth, consequently, the Board currently meets monthly, with one annual meeting that includes all choir members in July. Typically, meetings are held the fourth Monday of each month from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. in downtown Portland.
Additionally, Board Members are asked to serve on a committee, which typically meet once a month or once every two months depending on the committee.
Do Board Members make a financial commitment?
Yes, but the amount is determined by each Board Member. Our suggestion is that the Board Member make an annual financial contribution during the current fiscal year that is meaningful and significant to them; Portland Symphonic Choir should be among their top four nonprofits to which they give annually.
How long is a term on the board?
Board terms are three years long, and members have the option to serve up to two terms consecutively.
