20 Years of Summer Sings!
Summer Sings Began in 2005! Join us on july 20th, 2025 for Summer Sings 20th Celebration!
The first Summer Sings was July 20th, 2005. The “sing”? The German Requiem. On Sunday, July 20th, Alissa Deeter leads Brahms’ German Requiem — 20 years to the day after the first Summer Sings!

Come, pick up a score, and sing along next to members of the Portland Symphonic Choir. PSC explores traditional works and new works alike in our Summer Sings concerts. Summer Sings is for all!
What is Summer SIngs?
Summer Sings creates connections through audience participation, broadening choral music’s reach and relevance in Portland through 3 sing-along educational audience participatory concerts in July and August. Summer Sings is immersive, multigenerational, and participatory!
When is summer sings?
Sunday, July 20th 2025 at 4:00 pm and Wednesdays August 6th and August 13th at 7:00 pm!
Summer Sings is For All
Come, pick up a score, and sing along next to members of the Portland Symphonic Choir. This experience educates singers and audiences and uplifts area conductors, soloists, and community singers. If you are more comfortable just listening, that’s fine too!
And yes, Summer Sings is Air-conditioned!

CALL FOR SCORES
Emerging Composers
Goals:
encourage the creation of socially and culturally aware new works for classically-oriented large choirs.
Promote compositions by emerging composers from historically marginalized groups (i.e. BIPOC, LGBTQI+, and women composers)
Submission Requirements:
There are no stylistic restrictions on scores except that the piece be written for a large choral ensemble.
Your composition should be at least three minutes long and no more than ten minutes
If there are instruments, please make a piano reduction.
Singers for the event will include the Portland Symphonic Choir membership, students from the Portland metro area, PSC alumni, and community members.
Prizes:
Composers selected to participate in the Summer Sings New Works reading session will each receive a $300 stipend and are encouraged to attend the reading session in the summer, though attendance is not mandatory.
One composition of the three will be chosen for performance on Portland Symphonic Choir’s Wintersong concert. Please note that Wintersong is a choral concert with piano only.
