Noteworthy News, August 7th, 2020

We recently announced our 2020-21 season acknowledging that this is an unprecedented time for performing groups. Summer Sings had been moved to September (September Sings!) as the first event for our "virtual season." Dates will be Monday evenings, September 14 and 21 at our usual rehearsal times. Updated information can always be found on our website pschoir.org

It's an exciting time for our organization as everyone is welcome to participate in our upcoming virtual season. We already have 18 new singers joining us. Please help spread the word — ask your friends, worldwide, to come sing from the comfort of their home (and computer connection). All new singers will be asked to audition for PSC in fall of 2021. Bonus —> Any current member who attends 70% of our virtual rehearsals will not have to sing a "voice check" for the 2021-22 season.

Information specific to Choir members can now be reviewed by selecting the Members tab on the banner page of our website (pswd= pschoir). You will find several categories including study resources, the member information guide (Member Documents), and as you scroll down, an archive of past editions of Noteworthy News AND our official calendar. A link to the calendar can be added to your smartphone (iPhone) using this shortcut. The Members section of our website replaces the frequently problematic (and relatively expensive) ChoirGenius site.

In the way of some additional information about Scott Sorensen-Jolink who passed away a week ago, Scott sang in the Choir's bass section for many years and assisted in many behind-the-scenes activities that make our organization successful. He was always willing to share a helpful opinion and lend a hand. From a musical perspective, Scott graduated from Luther College and sang in the famous Nordic Choir under Weston Noble. He sang in the choir at First Congregational Church in downtown Portland and was our contact person to use the their space for warmups anytime we performed in the Schnitz. Professionally, Scott was a nationally recognized mediator and attorney who worked exclusively in the field of Family Law for more than 30 years. He was considered to be one of the most powerful attorneys in the state. A picture of Scott is attached as a reminder.

From Wendy: Thank you for sending in your recordings for Lift Every Voice and Sing. Our editor/producer is currently hard at work editing the project and it will premiere August 28 to align with the 2020 March on Washington DC. As mentioned, the video will also include a donate button and all net proceeds will go to Don’t Shoot Portland https://www.dontshootpdx.org. Thank you for being a choir willing to use your voices for this important work.

From Alissa: Abendlied recordings are in (thank you) and the editing process is underway. Stay tuned for further news. In the meantime, if you have any pictures, clippings, and other memorabilia from Choir activities, we are hoping to gather materials for the Portland Symphonic Choir Legacy Project. You may scan and send files to me or I can pick up materials to scan and return. Please contact me with questions and/or comments, alissa@pschoir.org.

Upcoming Choral (musical) events of Note: The Shows Must Go On series continues its summer break. They promised to re-release more classic Broadway shows later this month.
